Week 8 - Reflecting on the Three Most Important Learning Moments in CST363

Briefly summarize the what you consider to be the three (3) most important things you learned in this course.


        On the other side of CST363 Intro to Database Systems, I have gained a deeper understanding of how databases are a foundational part of the programming landscape and how they integrate with broader software systems. One of the most important takeaways was learning how data is not only organized but also preserved and managed for long-term use, ensuring reliability and consistency in real-world applications in industries with small margin for error, such as medical, educational and financial technology. I also developed a clearer grasp of how entities and their attributes relate within a database, which helped me understand data modeling and relational structures more intuitively. Finally, working hands-on with MySQL Workbench, Java integration, and MongoDB gave me practical experience in both relational and non-relational systems, reinforcing how versatile, scalable and essential databases are in modern software development. CST363 proved to be consistently practical, relevant, and eye-opening throughout the entire semester. A bonus mention here: there was an SSO error at work, I recognized the error message due to our own SQL web app development in class and was able to work through the expected attributes error using Active Directory!

  3 learning strategies I am good at and 3 learning strategies to improve from Dr. Bob Kizlik's Effective Study Skills piece:              Dr. Kizlik's write-up on effective study skills gave me a lot to consider. On one hand, I feel particularly capable of a handful of approaches listed but on the other hand, there are more abstract elements of effective studying that I still need to nail down for myself. As far as more controlled aspects of my personal study culture go, I will say I am great at making a study schedule, gathering the proper materials before writing or working, and making every hour that I am actually studying count.           It's difficult for me to begin working on any project without mapping out the workflow and estimating rough windows of time that each phase of the process might take.  Part One: Educational Goals By the end of the Computer Science Online program at CSU Monterey Bay, I will have gained a comprehensive, practical understanding of software engineering, specifically focusing on preparing to begin projects regarding the development and implementation of network security and encryption tools. I will achieve this by applying my coursework knowledge to real-world programming challenges, possible internships, and by building a portfolio of projects of all varieties that demonstrate my growth in both coding and cybersecurity skills.
